Trade is a branch of the economy that sells goods by buying and selling. Promising types of trade industry include: supermarkets - large complex self-service stores for food and non-food products; department stores - large stores with a universal assortment of predominantly non-food products; grocery stores - fairly large grocery stores as part of department stores or stand-alone facilities; specialized stores of food and non-food products (dietary, vegetables and fruits, goods for women, children, etc.); markets - trading enterprises for cooperative, commission and private trade in agricultural products. Store is the main type of retail industry. Trade enterprises consist of two delimited zones: for visitors and utility and warehouse, which are reflected in the planning structure of the building and the land. Based on this, the following compositional schemes are distinguished:
- frontal - trading floors are placed along the horizontal axis and can create a stepped plan, courdoner, etc.;
- deep - the main premises develop into the depth of the site, perpendicular to the main facade;
- separate - located in the center of the block of auxiliary storage facilities from two opposite sides adjoin trading floors;
- corner (two options): the first - auxiliary storage rooms adjoin the trading floors from two adjacent sides, the second - the trading floors cover the auxiliary storage rooms from adjacent sides;
- mixed - the main groups of rooms are oriented towards the main facade.
For trade facilities with more than two floors, a compositional scheme with vertical zoning and placement of auxiliary storage facilities in the basement or on the upper tier is mainly adopted. Trade enterprises consist of the following main groups of premises:
- trade;
- premises for the acceptance and preservation of goods and premises for the preparation of goods for sale;
- auxiliary premises;
- administrative and household premises;
- Technical buildings.
